Sixth Grade

In many ways, Sixth Grade is a celebration of our students' hard work and dedication. They have long prepared for many coveted privileges and responsibilities such as running carpool, reading to younger students, leading musical programs, a class trip to Austin and executing community service projects.

In History our students will return to the earliest known civilizations in Mesopotamia, and the beginning of the Jewish people, to see how God’s hand has perfectly woven our history as Christians. Their studies will take them from Biblical Times through the Middle Ages.

The students will find a world filled with excitement in Literature. Swiss Family Robinson, Alice in Wonderland, Robin Hood and King Arthur will fill their minds with worthy heroes and adventure filled days.

Our students will continue to hone their creative and research writing skills with specific paragraph structure, topic sentences, personification, reflection, poetry and prose. This will be done through research papers on Ancient Egypt and the Medieval Era. Grammatically, students will focus on analysis and comprehension, phrases and clauses, diagramming sentences, conjugations and complements, and conjugations.

In Saxon Math 8/7, students will review arithmetic calculation, measurements, geometry and then be introduced to pre-algebra, ratios, probability and statistics. They will specifically learn about adding, subtracting and multiplying fractions, equivalent fractions, the metric system, repeating decimals, scientific notation, Pi, graphing inequalities, multiplying algebraic terms, the Pythagorean Theorem and the slope intercept form of linear equations.

Science this year will dive into the wonder of the human body and how a perfect Creator designed humanity with intention and purpose. They will study the intricate and amazing design of the human body from head to toe.

In Sixth Grade students are introduced to First Form Latin, where they will focus on grammar forms and vocabulary. This grammar first curriculum is taught at a slow, gentle pace to allow mastery.

Music & Art will continue to enhance the students minds through the study of Orchestra & Classical Music, and the History of Art from Classical to Realism.
