Third Grade brings together the rhythm and analysis first introduced in Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten, the literature from First Grade and the spelling lessons of Second Grade to start the process of creative writing. They will learn the procedures behind creative writing, functional spelling, composition forms and public speaking.
In Saxon Math 5/4, students will learn to add three digit numbers, subtract with regrouping, read time, write numbers, estimate arithmetic answers, divide with two digit answers, multiply three or more factors, simply fraction, use a decimal number line and more. This is the first year that Saxon Math is no longer on a worksheet, so learning to read problems, copy them to graph paper and find the solution provides a challenge for the students.
In Social Studies, students are introduced to the countries of the world, culminating in a research report written using primary sources, cooking food from that country and wearing a traditional costume. They will also learn all the US States and Capitals, Continents, Oceans and World Geography.
Using Apologia Astronomy as their basis, students will learn about the far reachers of the universe that points to the God who created it. They will learn about the solar system, start, asteroid belt, dwarf planets, Kupier belt galaxies, nebulae and black holes.
