About Highlands Christian

Highlands Christian School is a private, co-educational school dedicated to nurturing and challenging each child – body, mind, and spirit – to the glory of God, serving students in Pre-Kindergarten through 6^th grade.

Educating in the proven Carden Method, Highlands Christian provides each child with a strong phonetic foundation in reading and spelling and analytical thinking tools to better understand the written word for reading comprehension. The Carden philosophy and teachings stress mastery of content and developing problem-solving skills through a structured, stimulating, and sequential academic curriculum.

The History of Carden Education in Lake Highlands

Dr. Betty Woodring brought the Carden Method curriculum to Dallas, when she founded Highlander-Carden School in September 7, 1966. Highlander School quickly gained a reputation for providing challenging academics in a nurturing environment. For 57 years, the school produced generations of successful students before closing in May 2023.

In August of 2023, Highlands Christian School opened, carring on the Carden tradition in Lake Highlands and equipped with some of the most talented and tenured teachers in the state of Texas.
