Educating in the proven Carden Method, Highlands Christian provides each child with a **strong phonetic foundation in reading and spelling** and **analytical thinking tools** to better understand the written word for reading comprehension. The Carden philosophy and teachings stress **mastery of content** and **developing problem-solving skills** through a structured, stimulating, and sequential academic curriculum. # The History of Carden Education in Lake Highlands Dr. Betty Woodring brought the Carden Method curriculum to Dallas, when she founded Highlander-Carden School in September 7, 1966. Highlander School quickly gained a reputation for providing challenging academics in a nurturing environment. For 57 years, the school produced generations of successful students before closing in May 2023.  In August of 2023, Highlands Christian School opened, carrying on the Carden tradition in Lake Highlands and equipped with some of the most talented and tenured teachers in the state of Texas.  FACULTY AND STAFF Highlands Christian is led by top teachers and staff with hearts that yearn to serve and fulfill our school's mission.    [Learn more about our Faculty](https://www.highlandschristianschool.com/faculty?hsLang=en) EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY We strive to provide a nurturing and rigorous academic environment for early childhood and elementary students.   [Learn more about our Educational Philosophy](https://www.highlandschristianschool.com/educational-philosophy?hsLang=en) "Highlands Christian School (HCS) has been an answered prayer for our family. The teachers offer a phenomenal education in a very nurturing environment. Small class sizes allow my children to know everyone in the school, giving them a sense of comfort, security, and camaraderie. The Lane family is truly blessed to be a part of HCS!" ![LaneFamily2022-13-2\_SMALL FILE TAKE2](https://www.highlandschristianschool.com/hubfs/LaneFamily2022-13-2_SMALL%20FILE%20TAKE2.jpg) Parent Rachel Lane 721 Easton Road, Dallas, TX, 75218 | [office@highlandschristianschool.com](mailto:office@highlandschristianschool.com) | [214.973.9209](tel:214.973.9209) © 2025 Highlands Christian School, a 501c3 organization. | All rights reserved | [Privacy Policy](https://www.highlandschristianschool.com/privacy-policy?hsLang=en)
