Why white shirts for boys?

When trying to achieve a uniform look for our students, as a whole, you will notice that our students, across all grade levels and genders, have a white top paired with a black or plaid bottom. If you prefer, your boy may wear the optional red performance polo most days of school. Days when required wear needs to be worn to school, for example, on Assembly days, will be communicated ahead of time.

Why are boys required to have both shorts and pants?

Uniform pants are worn for school photos, for field trips during colder months and for programs, when necessary. Uniform shorts may be worn during warmer weather months.

Why cotton shorts and pants for Pre-K and Kinder only?

HCS Pre-K and Kinder teachers would like our Pre-K and Kinder students in elastic waistband shorts and pants as they learn to use the restroom at school. We can only meet this need for our teachers and younger students with cotton garments. Performance material is not available in an elastic waistband.

How many of each garment should we buy for our student?

This depends heavily on how often you plan to wash your child’s garments. Sales representatives in store and by phone are willing to help you make selections, and  seasoned mothers are always happy share their experience. Keep in mind that jumpers and skirts are very durable and, generally speaking, can be worn more than once between washing.

Why do girls have to wear shorts daily under their jumpers or skirts?

Girls take off their jumpers and skirts for P.E. daily and need uniform shorts underneath for play and modesty. 

What about a uniform closet?

HCS does have a uniform closet of gently used items. You may contact the office for more information. Parents may donate their gently used garments at any time.

How often will we have Spirit Day?

Spirit Day is the first Friday of the month school year. Guidelines for Spirit Day dress will be available in the Dress Code Uniform Guidelines section of the HCS Handbook under “Spirit and Free Dress Days.”
